Autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is typically a neurological as well as developmental disorder. It generally starts in early childhood and may lasts all through the life. This disorder involves the communication skills of a person.

It is called a “spectrum” disorder as individuals with Autism spectrum disorder can have a variety of presentations. Individuals who suffer from ASD may face difficulties in communicating with other peoples. They may not make eye contact while conversing. These individuals might also exhibit repetitive behaviour or repeat the same sentences again and again. They may be glued in their own world

Symptoms
A person with ASD might:

  • May Not respond to their own name by one year.
  • Do not point at any object by the age of 14 months e.g. a flying aeroplane, monkey or any animal etc.
  • Pretends to feed toys e.g. dolls. Etc by one and a half years.
  • Avoids direct eye contact with others and feels secure being alone
  • May have trouble understanding others emotions and stay stuck to own emotions and feelings
  • Generally have delayed speech and language mile stones.
  • Generally repeats same lines and phases technically known as (echolalia)
  • Gives dissimilar answers to questions
  • Gets extremely disturbed with petty things and don’t prefer any changes.
  • Are fanatical to their interests
  • Generally wave their hands, rock their body, or spin in circular motion
  • Have strange response to the way things sound, smell, taste, look, or feel

Social Skills

People who suffer from Autism spectrum disorder may also have some typical social issues. They are very less social and always keep themselves away from crowds or strange people

  • Is not comfortable with making eye contacts
  • Prefers to play alone or with same people whom they have acquaintance with.
  • Do not carve up interests with others
  • Seems selfish as they me sound to only interact to attain a considered necessarily.
  • Has dumb expression
  • is not aware of individual space and boundaries
  • Avoids or resists physical contact with others
  • Is not pleased by others during sorrow
  • Has difficulty in accepting other people’s feelings or talking about own feelings
    Other Symptoms of ASD may include.
  • Hyperactivity
  • Very impulsive
  • Lack of concentration
  • Very violent sometimes but mainly aggressive
  • May cause self injuries.
  • Temper tantrums
  • Abnormal feeding and sleeping patterns
  • Strange emotional reactions and frequent mood swings.
  • Fearless or fearful
  • Extraordinary reactions to the way things sound, smell, taste, look, or feel
