Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a mental disorder that is a resultant of harsh experience of some traumatic event such as a natural calamity, a serious mishap, a fanatic act, war/battle, or rape or who have been seriously been threatened with death, sexual violence or grave injury.
It came in lime-light post world war 1 when it was known as “shell shock” and during World War 2 where it was known as “combat fatigue”

They may experience it again in the form of flashbacks or nightmares; they may feel gloomy, fearful or angered; and they may feel disconnected or separated from other people. People with PTSD may stay away from circumstances or surroundings that recall them of the disturbing event, and they may have strong negative reactions to something as common as a loud noise or an unintentional touch.
